THE MONTESSORI GUIDE
Careza “Jaja” Reyes

With over two decades of experience in Montessori primary education, Jaja has taught in a wide range of settings – from established Montessori classrooms in the Philippines and New Zealand, to grassroots educational initiatives in the most disadvantaged communities. She completed her AMI 6–12 Montessori training in 2014 under Rebecca Dallam in Sydney, and holds a Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of the Philippines.
Her teaching journey has included working with neurodivergent learners and participating in a UN project on children’s rights, delivering educational workshops in some of the most challenging urban poor environments, where she witnessed firsthand how education can transform lives. These formative experiences shaped her belief that education is a gift—one that extends far beyond literacy and numeracy.
Jaja deeply resonates with Dr. Montessori’s vision of education as a pathway to peace. These values continue to fuel her passion for Montessori education, which nurtures the whole child and fosters independence, empathy, and a lifelong love of learning.
Outside the classroom, she has been involved in environmental and community-based initiatives and brings this spirit into her teaching. She enjoys the arts, painting and spending time in nature: tramping, cycling, or swimming – activities she loves to share with her tamariki to inspire curiosity and connection with the world around them.
“It is not enough for the teacher to love the child. She must first love and understand the universe.”
